this is a writing blog for an original interpretation of MARGUERITE ST. JUST, originally from baroness orczy's   THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. almost entirely headcanon based with inspiration taken from the novel; extremely critical of the source material. est. 2023. runs on permanent (s)low/sporadic activity. mature themes will be present; as such, this blog is strictly 18+. all triggers will be tagged as "trigger /".

etym. Derived from the Greek and Latin word “μαργαρίτης (margarítēs),” meaning pearl.

D.O.B. 2 November 1768 (aged 25 during the events of The Scarlet Pimpernel).
P.O.B. Rouen, Normandy, France.
GENDER. Cisgender female; she/her.
ETHNICITY. White; French-Russian.
ORIENTATION. Bisexual (no lean), though she is very sexually repressed in general due to, well... Catholicism.
RELIGION. Considers herself a devout Catholic given her upbringing in the Paris convent, but falls more between an agnostic and atheist in actuality. Has a very complicated relationship with religion and God.

PARENTS. Philippe St. Just (✝) and Elizaveta Agapova (✝); both dead from illness.
SIBLINGS. Armand St. Just; older brother, eight years her senior.  Author of the Scarlet Pimpernel .
SIGNIFICANT OTHER. Sir Percival Blakeney, baronet/ The Scarlet Pimpernel  (husband; married c. October 1792).
OTHER RELATIONSHIPS. Suzanne de Tournay (best friend. Once infatuated with her); Armand Chauvelin (surrogate older brother, relationship very strained); Jeanne Lange (sister-in-law and confidant); Marius de St. Cyr (former fling. It's, uh... complicated).

OCCUPATION. An actress at the Comédie-Française from the ages of seventeen to twenty-four, formerly a student at the Paris convent school in her late childhood and early adolescence.
RESIDENCE. Blakeney Manor, Richmond, London, England. Formerly a townhouse in the Rue de Richelieu, 1st arrondissement, Paris, France.
ECONOMIC CLASS. Lower middle class, later enters the gentry class via her marriage.

FACECLAIM. Amy Bodnar, Christine Andreas, Margaret Qualley.
FACE. Soft features, with a heart-shaped face, soft lips, and long lashes; almost doll-like, though she always looks a little sad.
HAIR. Dark brown, almost black, with reddish undertones. Thick, curly (3a), with short, wispy bangs. When let down, her hair falls to her waist. Often worn up in the fashionable hairstyles of the day, most notably the hedgehog hairstyle.
EYES. Green, on the warmer side. They’re wide, round, and often have a melancholic look to them.
HEIGHT. 5’5” / 165 cm.
WEIGHT. 107 ibs / 48.5 kg, considered underweight for her height.
VOICE. Lilted, soft and medium-pitched. Her voice is described as melodic and song-like, almost birdlike. Her natural voice tends to be a little flat at times; she often exaggerates the inflection in her voice. When speaking English, her voice is slightly accented.
POSTURE & GAIT. well-poised, influenced by the etiquette classes she took whilst living in the convent. she tends to be steady with her gait, though at times she almost looks a bit too stiff. when in private, she tends to let herself go more freely, and her gait becomes more unruly as a result.

PHYSICAL HEALTH. Well, though that wasn't always the case. Very sickly and frail as a child, often tended to by her parents and brother. Intermittent fasting while at the convent did not help this. Even in adulthood, she does not take illnesses well and feels their effects in extremes. She commonly suffers from bouts of insomnia, with her sleeping patterns being irregular more often than not.MENTAL HEALTH. Major depression, anxiety, C-PTSD. Following the deaths of her parents, she experienced severe memory loss and is unable to remember a large portion of her early childhood. Much of her religious trauma stems from her experiences at the Paris convent.MANNERISMS & HABITS. Wringing hands, picking nails, furtive glances, biting lip, biting the inside of her cheek, humming, frequent drinking, pulling own hair, hitting self. Almost all of these are used to cope with anxiety.STYLE. Dressed almost entirely in dark reds and warm pinks, save for the scarce blue or purple in her wardrobe influenced by Percy. She wears both fashionable silhouettes (robe a l'anglaise) and styles from France that have not quite hit the English shores yet. In modern eras, her wardrobe is almost entirely black clothing with accents of red and pink.

SPOKEN LANGUAGES. French, Russian (native; bilingual), English (fluent), Italian (conversational), a little bit of Swedish and Dutch taught to her by Suzanne. Taught Latin as part of her convent education.

BELIEFS. A moderate by birth, though she quickly takes to the beliefs of Republicanism. Once an avid supporter of the revolution, she believes in the philosophical foundation of the revolution (liberté, égalité, fraternité), though is vehemently against the executions happening on mass. At heart, she's a humanist.

GENERAL PERSONALITY. Marguerite is, ultimately, a bit of a complicated person to fully discern. Charming, beautiful, and clever, she is someone who draws others in and, on a superficial level, is someone who gets along well with people. There is an air of mystery to her, however, one which many people have tried to uncover, to no avail. While she is exceptionally good at maintaining her outward composure, she is a very emotional person, and is not afraid to be blunt or to speak her mind. Melancholic at her core and disillusioned by life, she often has her head in the clouds, living in her reveries, and is distrustful of most people. Still, she believes in the inherent goodness of the world, and will fight tooth and nail for the people she loves. She is merciful and believes in second chances, though her empathy has limits and she gives it sparingly. In most cases, she puts others' happiness over her own, often with detrimental consequences.

PIMPERNEL MARGOT. ^{ALTERNATE UNIVERSE; MAIN VERSE.}     following the death of the marquis de st. cyr, marguerite's guilt and desire for penance leads her to become the scarlet pimpernel, an elusive vigilante who rescues innocents from the guillotine. as the stakes of the revolution rise and her newly married life comes undone, she becomes incresingly more reckless, not caring if she gets hurt or found out. her recklessness catches up to her soon enough, however, when her brother armand is imprisoned in the fall of 1793.   verse post.POST CANON. ^{MAIN VERSE; CANON VERSE.}     taking place after the events of the scarlet pimpernel. with armand safe in england and percy continuing his adventures as the scarlet pimpernel, marguerite tries to adjust to her new normal. however, her lingering resentment and curiosity become too difficult to ignore, as she becomes more restless and fed up with the mundanity of everyday life. it's not long before the pimpernel's antics catch up to her once again, however, though the consequences this time around are much more dire.PRE-CANON: PARIS. ^{BY REQUEST OR IF THE THREAD CALLS FOR IT.}     the newly promoted leading lady of the comédie-française, marguerite st. just's career can only go up from here. with her debut being met with critical acclaim, she is quickly rising as one of the most influential artisans in paris. but the city is quickly changing; with a revolution on the horizon and her career dependent on her loyalties, perhaps it's only fate, then, that an english nobleman would come and steal her heart, giving her a way out.CANON. ^{BY REQUEST ONLY.}     the events of the scarlet pimpernel. writing in this verse will be rare, and will be reserved to other pimpernel blogs unless plotting occurs.MODERN VERSE. ^{ALTERNATE UNIVERSE.}     a precocious and former "gifted child," marguerite is split between her desire to become a musician after her father and fulfilling her mother's wishes of becoming a successful doctor. as a teenager, she befriends percy blakeney, a boy her age whom she quickly becomes close with. after several years they finally reunite, though their reunion coincidentally falls in line with the emergence of a vigilante known only as the scarlet pimpernel.   verse post tba.

COMICS. ^{ALTERNATE UNIVERSE.}     born to immigrant parents outside of gotham city, being a talented violinist with dreams of performing with the philharmonic orchestra in the day and a member of the justice league international at night, marguerite finds the responsibility of handling both of her lives to be incredibly overwhelming. after a particularly emotionally taxing mission, marguerite must consider whether or not being a hero is all she hoped it would be. set in the 80s-90s.   verse post.POKÉMON. ^{ALTERNATE UNIVERSE.}     following the defeat of champion diantha at the end of x/y, marguerite has become the champion of the kalos region and quickly becomes overwhelemed with the responsibilities that come with it, especially with rogue mega evolved pokemon beginning to run loose around lumiose city. it's not until she's invited to the galar region by the galarian pokemon league that she finally gets a break in her routine, although that quickly becomes eclipsed by a mysterious figure: the scarlet pimpernel, an elusive trainer and current champion of galar, whose identity is unknown.   verse post tba.WESTERN. ^{ALTERNATE UNIVERSE.}     in the american midwest, marguerite st. just lives a double life; by day, she's helping her brother run the family printshop. by night, she's the mysterious scarlet pimpernel, a vigilante who works outside of the law to enact justice, much to the local sheriff, chauvelin's, dismay.   verse post tba.
